Have you ever noticed the noise
On the street as twilight tumbles
With a sound unbroken
As a rowdy crow calls;
When a million loud mosquito's
Set their tiny selves a buzz,
Like a thousand humming bits of electric
Where the grassy steel lampposts are.
Tired and rested by the soothing
Sounds of the day,
As the heat and hurt and hardness
Seems to softly melt
Smoothly spreads the noisy shadows
Smudging out the lingering light,
Sleepy stars begin their vigil,
Day has faded into black.
