What is the first question that is always asked when you return from a long vacation trip? Is it about the beauties of nature you may have enjoyed? Is it of the historic locations you may have visited or of the lovely cathedrals, the great power dams or other man-made wonders you may have inspected? Ah! No! It is none of these. It is always "how much to the gallon?"
You go in a trip to a georgeous land where the roads
are swell and the scenery is majestic, but all they will
ask you is, "how many miles to the gallon?"
You drive where the meadows are lush green and yellow
and the creeks are the loveliest ever seen, where the
skies are blue and the air is sharp but, "how many miles
to the gallon?"
You go to to where the mountains brush the clouds
with their snow-crowned crests, aloof and high, where
it warms your eye and delights your soul, still, "how
many miles to the gallon?"
You follow the signs from coast to coast, from the blizzards
chill to the tropics heat, yet the question heard most, first
and last, is, "how many miles to the gallon?"
