The hills and fragrant meadows
Loll beneath a kindly sun
And the happy creeks here
Whisper lively as they flow;
While the fields of waving cornland,
Spreading far as my eye can see,
Show the largess of the tiller
And proves his good fortune.
For the lushness of his top soil
Is a priceless bequest.
The woods and smiling waters
Border pictures of delight,
For the rippling of the grain fields
Is to me a moving scene;
The pastures, green and restful
With the Holsteins grazing there
And the rooting of the Berkshires
Plowing divots in every place,
Makes for me a thrilling picture
That is way beyond compare.
