A bustling new in the quaint old world
You would look good wearing an old gray bonnet
A hand-hewn house with new shingled sides
Like rouge sprinkled on a tired old face
And here is a new porch and there is a new roof
Like a shining light showing the way
The like and color of a new found joy
Where it's living is dull and life was duller
But the trellised walls along the rambling street
The bright blue halls and the mellowed brick
With their cool clean calm and the wrought iron locks
And in the bin some well-stocked corded wood
Aprons black and the broad canal
Will meet you yet and bring back memories
Of this quiet pool in the pioneer tide
While life was still full and moved so slow
