The Gentle River Society was a secret society in Goland noted for its numerous evils. Its members were the worst wonkles of time. Given to evil excessively, they prided in some power. Usually, on joining, members were given the oath to swear never to leak their secrets or back out. Anyone attempting to or thinking otherwise as they were seriously monitored in thoughts, words and actions spiritually and otherwise, was killed summarily. Were there benefits? Yes. They had money from ominous sources that helped them have locked-up stores , and sold, just as they usually said "that the world was a market", when in essence, it remains truly, a farm.

Due to the oath, its members lived hypocritical lives and would die mysteriously without voicing out even when they were at the brink of death and knew they could speak up to some sources of help, seeking respite. One day, due to being grossly given to hypocrisy, a member of the Gentle River Society who struggled with a fart, would not leave his place or excuse himself in a crowd till it exploded in a sound! After all, they were taught to conceal feelings and things.

Alice Kanktoke was a member also. But Alice, after committing so much havoc, knew her time to die was due. She was labeled and notified and knew she would be killed. But Alice had to think. After making her way straight with God, she sought help. The Gentle River Society turned lose against her, but she defeated them. And though they still tried to terrorise her, she held strong, survived their intimidation and became lordess over them in her new godly vocation.
