Motivated
Much to prove
Not to you, them
But myself
Too long, I was put on the shelf
Real me buried
Allowed to indulge
Ran away from responsibilities
Irrationality overriding sensibilities
I was a nowhere man.

Enslaved by brainwashing
No faith or courage
A scourge on the speck of the universe
I thought I was cursed
No, just an ignorant coward.

Play the victim and be prepared
To lose any sense of dignity
And any semblance of control
For they’ve had their way with you far too long
Trying to steer you into what they
Thought was best and just
While ignoring your uniqueness
The gifts that you brought to this earth
But if the motives are impure
And tempted by the bright lights
Swallowed whole by the illusion of being the chosen one
You might as well junk the project
And start fresh by coming up with a plan
That’s not going to hurt others
Let alone yourself.

You’ve been waiting for this moment
Seems like forever
The hardest endeavor
Not impossible
The mind can play tricks
Leading you into the inevitable trap
Hands reaching into the sky
The pit of abyss
One can miss out on subtleties and intangibles
While wrapped up in delusion
The cunning adulation.

Know what needs to be done
To heal this affliction
Benediction coming after the epiphany
And while you keep on trying
To solve the mysteries of life,
You miss the surest, simplest constructs
That the Lord places in your vision.

I surmise it’s been a long haul
But the call has been made
You can avoid it
By covering ears and eyes
But to continue on with the slowest of suicides
Would be a tragic mistake.

So, I value your support
And thankful for you stepping in
When I was confined in
The vast web of emotional ills
Let me do for you
Like I used to
You don’t have to worry
I’m not a card carrying member
Of the Quid Pro Quo
For there’s a difference
Between being kind
And a doormat
I’ve played both roles
Some thought I was incapable
Of turning this ship around
In deadly waters but
I’m back on course to the safest harbor
I forgot had existed.
