God has searched me and knows,
My coming and going;
Of the paths that I chose,
Where my heart is flowing.

He knows when I sit down,
And when I will stand up;
When I smile or frown,
What I drink from my cup.

He searches out my path,
And of my lying down;
Sparing me from His wrath,
That I not break my crown.

He knows within my heart,
Acquainted with my way;
What my tongue will impart,
My thoughts for when I pray.

He hems me from behind,
Laying His hand on me;
As knowledge fills my mind,
Opens my eyes to see.

I cannot attain it,
Solely upon my own;
Not having His Spirit,
I would be so alone.

If I go to Heaven,
I know He would be there;
With blessings be given,
Salvation He would share.

If I would go to hell,
And make my bed to sleep;
He would know where I dwell,
To get His wayward sheep.

If I get angel wings,
At the daybreak of dawn;
I could go to see things,
That are now and have gone.

Even then His hand leads,
His right hand shall hold me;
Catering to my needs,
When I stated my plea.

Surely darkness covers,
As light turns into night;
But His angel hovers,
Protecting to shine bright.
