The Fleeting Nature of Life

I will guard my way,
That I may not sin;
No longer to stray,
Corrupting within.

I will guard my tongue,
With bit and bridle;
Foul words are not flung,
My mind not idle.

I was so silent,
As I held my peace;
But felt violent,
Ill will would not cease.

My distress grew worse,
My heart became hot;
It was like a curse,
A torment that fought.

Make me know my end,
Measure of my days;
God needs to defend,
For changing my ways.

My life is nothing,
Man stands as a breath;
Vain shadows to bring,
Nothing except death.

Only turmoil,
As man heaps up wealth;
Trouble and toil,
Will affect his health.

For what do I wait?
My hope is in God;
For changing my fate,
Where broken and flawed.

Stop my transgression,
Make not me a fool;
I am muted one,
Following His rule.

Look away from me,
As to ease the pain;
Since God heard my plea,
To cleanse the stain.
