Large old fire place still burns
He sits in once plush chair~
Wall paper around once very bright
Faded now by smoke in air~
Walking stick beside him
His days are almost through~
Cluttered table hold old lantern there
It's wick years away from new~
Curtains drawn have been for years
Window glass not been cleaned in ages~
Bible sits on small table there
Open up at his favorite pages~
Picture of his long gone wife
On mantle high and wide~
House been silent for so long
Smoke the fragrance so inside~
Raining still set in awhile
Old clock it ticks so surely~
Old man quiet now thinks and dreams
Of late he feels so poorly~
He knows that all things come and go
One day will be his turn~
Dry wood stacked plenty in box
Old fire still to burn~
Friends drop in now and again
They stay awhile then go~
Old man sits and thinks and reads
The fire still gives of a glow~
Not to worry he does feel
His memories sublime~
All things come and all things go
All things on earth have their time~
Old fire pokers where he can reach
His once books ever galore~
Photo albums sit about
Of a long forgotten war~
Furniture unpolished now
An old dog keeps him company~
He sits on cushion beside his mate
His lost wife's rug upon his knee~
Happy is the soul in heart
As if he has been told~
By an angel it's his time
All things must grow old~

( But rest assure forever more ..
Young women are by far older ..
Than little boys with bigger toys
Without any experience but bolder )
