The Obedient Servant

The Lord has given me a tongue,
To all those who need to be taught;
Sustains with the Word that is flung,
Who are weary what they have sought.
Morning by morning God wakes me,
He has awaken me to hear;
And He opens my eyes to see,
That I would learn how to revere.
I rebel not nor turn away,
When He has opened up my ear;
Concentrating what He does say,
Unto His words on what I hear.
I gave my back to those who strike,
My cheeks to those who pull my hair;
They despise me as they dislike,
The words that I constantly share.
I do not hide my face in shame,
Even with the mocking insults;
I will continue to proclaim,
The Scripture producing results.
The Lord helps to see no disgrace,
Because I know He vindicates me;
For no shame will I ever face,
With the insight that helps to see.
Who plans to ever contend me,
That would be my adversary;
Let him come near that I can see,
Tries to start a controversy.
Who would they declare me guilty,
When the Lord God is by my side;
No one has the ability,
When the Lord God has been my guide.
All of them will wear out like clothes,
Allowing the moth have a feast;
They will wilt and die like a rose,
That would be trampled by a beast.
