CHAPTER 1
Mr. Lowfellow Ardemopiu, the son of Lowfellow Ardemopiupiu lived in Lowfellows county in Loss forgotten. Things were hard. There was no money, and mostly everyone was poor. They never went to school, nor had the opportunity their neighbors, the Nighfellows had. Suffering was commonplace in Lowfellows. People died either of epidemics or of poverty. Bad things reigned supreme. Even the king, Ardemodemo, felt and experienced the generationally handed poverty.
People were beginning to seek a better life, either in Nighfellows or elsewhere, where "things could be good." Mr. Lowfellow decided to seek one of such places, but in fact Domdom land in Argrindon, where, as he heard, "everything was blessed and fine." He had little food and no money, but the journey was more important than his situation; if at all, he arrived at Domdom land.
CHAPTER 2
THE JOURNEY FROM LOWFELLOWS TO ARGRINDON
The journey, as was later told by the peoples of both places, was the most horrible experience ever had. While Lowfellow moved just a mile into his near-endless miles journey, he smelt a rat and waited. Then to his surprise, someone was hiding behind a tree with a gun, to shoot him. He was smarter and faster. He immediately told the person, he had enough money and food in his box, and could give it to him. The man believed it, while telling him to kneel at surrender, which he did. But as the man got near the box, Lowfellow gave him a kick on his belly, and took his gun and shot him. He died. Now, Lowfellow had a weapon; a gun which could help him in his journey. He was so hungry and ate grass on the way till he came to a place called Danshiani. Here, there was a little stream, but while he thought of going down to drink, four men surrounded him with axes. He immediately loaded his gun and shot them to death. When the people of Danshiani heard the noise, they came out and chased him, but he ran away to a hilly place called Neptu, and hid himself behind trees and walked through the mud to another road. At this place, he shot an antelope and roasted it. It was here at Neptu, that he saw another man, who immediately raised his hands and surrendered to him; he was also a traveler, and good instinct told him not to harm him.
They both enjoyed the antelope and became friends. The name of the traveler was Apitopel. He still had some grains on him, but he would, as Lowfellow later discovered, be one of the worst events of his life.
Apitopel shared some of his grains with him and they had a swell time together. Then, Lowfellow finally told him he would still move ahead to Domdom land. But Apitopel was of the view they settled at a place called Nofriendsasfriends, not quite faraway, but chose to follow him. After a distance away, Apitopel began to cry. He said he had come from faraway Langlangland and was not intent on going anymore, and pleaded with Lowfellow to stop journeying forward. Lowfellow tried to encourage him to no avail. Seven days after this, he decided to part from Lowfellow and went his way to Nofriendsasfriends, while Lowfellow kept on. After several miles of harsh and hard journey, Lowfellow finally came to a strange place. It was a very large graveyard.
CHAPTER 3
STONES OF THE MERE GRAVES
This place was the most quiet place in existence. Lowfellow almost ran himself to death when the gate of the Mere Graves opened on its own. Then, he began to hear people laugh and chuckle. But as he looked carefully, the sounds seemed to come from stones found at this graveyard. Then, each of the stones started speaking to him. One say " Hi, Mr. Low', I know you very well. You are the son of late Mr. Lowfellow Ardemopiupiu; just listen to me: I am authentic, and will take you to where you're going." Another said " don't mind him. He's a liar: I'll take you there." Each stone was talking. Low' was almost confused. Then, finally, he noticed a stone of all the stones, was not talking. He went near and picked up the stone and listened if he could hear it say something. The stone was speechless. After a long while, the stone spoke: " Good afternoon young traveler. How are you?" Low' answered "I'm fine. And you?" It retorted "fine, too." " Please, if I may ask, why were you speechless?", he asked. The stone retorted: "I don't speak when others speak. I am the Last Stone. Some call me ' The First'". Lowfellow was a bit bothered and asked "why?" "Because those who know the truth are always few and not heard." Lowfellow began to cry and asked it: "please, can you help me out with my journey?" "This is actually the last place to pass through before you get to Domdom land; but all you've got to do is to follow and not abandon my instructions for your safety. Just take West, as we go through the Mere Graves, as we journey." From afternoon to night, it was a gruesome journey of wild spirits talking and screaming, but the Last Stone kept talking and assuring him to keep moving. Then they came to a place where the stone was not talking, which was the wildest place in the Mere Graves. Low' asked the stone to talk, but it would not. He even thought of dropping it, but somehow did not. Then he came to a muddy river bank where the stone finally said: " Dear Low', this is t Bent River. It is filled with the wildest spirits of time." Low' was not happy and demanded to know why it would not speak all these while when he needed it the most. The stone replied "because it was not necessary; infact, if I had spoken, you wouldn't have listened. You will cross the Bent River with the greatest determination." Lowfellow folded his trousers and tied his bag firmly behind him, pulled his gun and moved in as the stone ordered him "Move." Then he heard vices of peoples and spirits all over and beneath the river, but dared to move. After what seemed an endless wade, he spotted the sun rise on the other horizon. The stone whispered to him: "that's the land you're heading for. It is just at the heels if time. But you will need to fight the Miscreants at the border. So, set your gun." The Miscreants were the viloentest people-spirits at the border of Domdom land at Argrindon. They killed anybody and stole from them. The Last Stone told him that the journey already over because he had seen the sun rise on the horizon, although he needed to fight. When Lowfellow got a little distance into the land, some of the Miscreants, who were asleep, stood up on hearing the sounds of his footsteps and came near to arrest him. But the Miscreants who were carnibals had no knowledge of nor used guns, so he killed them, by firing shots from his gun. He kept creeping at the instruction of the last stone till he killed two hundred of them. The others escaped into the Tiny Hour Woods.
Then the Last Stone told him: " you are about to arrive the most beautiful city, but you have to discard the gun. At this point, for t first time, he would not listen, as he was afraid. "After all, the gun protected me. So, why drop it?" To this, the last stone said nothing. He finally moved on and heard a very loud bell ring, with a watcher shouting: "maintain your position whoever you are." He was afraid as eleven invisible horses and horsemen appeared before him. "We would have killed you if you had not this stone with you", their leader said. Then, he began to weeping, apologizing to them. They took him and all disappeared and came to the King's Fort of Domdom land, where they had celebrations for receiving a person who walked from death to life. The holy Orals sang " Lowfellow was low and lost, now, he's found as we can see."
